The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2

The Second Letter of

St. Paul to Timothy

Chapter 2

¹ You then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus; ² and what you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verses 1 to 2)

Oh God my Father I thank You for the gift of faith and for the grace of belief. I pray for blind faith and trust in You my God and Father Amen. I pray that we be strong enough to share with others the good works that You have done for and with us, and even by means of us. Amen.

³ Share in suffering like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. ⁴ No one serving in the army gets entangled in everyday affairs; the soldier's aim is to please the enlisting officer.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verses 3 to 4)

As in the example of the soldier we are also not to be entangled in the ways of the world, but our focus is that of pleasing You my God and Father amen.

⁵ And in the case of an athlete, no one is crowned without competing according to the rules.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verse 5)

As in the spiritual life, oh God my Father there seems to be no salvation without some form of persecution, which in turn paves the way for our salvation Amen. Thank You oh God my Father for placing us on the Royal Road to the Cross as You did Amen.

⁶ It is the farmer who does the work who ought to have the first share of the crops. ⁷ Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in all things.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verses 6 to 7)

As in the case of the farmer, You are the one who is worthy to reap the harvest, of the first crops in us, for You provided the seed and the land in which the seed was to be sown. Amen. You are worthy of our praise and worship, for only in You all things function and have their meaning. Nothing can ever exist without You. Amen.

⁸ Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David-that is my gospel, ⁹ for which I suffer hardship, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verses 8 to 9)

Remember oh brothers and sisters who our Father is. We have royal blood in our veins, we are the sons and daughters of the, most high God and we are to be proud of our royal heritage that has been passed on to us through one generation after another. Oh God my Father I am ready to experience even death in order to defend Your name. Amen.

¹⁰ Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. ¹¹ The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; ¹² If we endure, we will also reign with him: if we deny him, he will also deny us; ¹³ if we are faithless, he remains faithful for he cannot deny himself.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verses 10 to 13)

Oh God my Father this verse could not have come at a better time in my life. I am to persevere in my situation and not seek to find a worldly remedy such as separation, for endurance achieves salvation and without sacrifice, there seems to be no reward. I therefore, pray oh God my Father that You give me the much-needed strength Amen in order to persevere even though it is very difficult, however, I still believe that You are with me and that You will help me every step of the way.

¹⁴ Remind them of this, and warn them before God that they are to avoid wrangling over words, which does no good but only ruins those who are listening.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verse 14)

Oh God, my Father it is indeed wise to avoid heated talk shows and discussions offline and even online, for many personal biases and lies are presented. Furthermore, one can easily be negatively affected in both mind and spirit by such scepticism towards You my, God and Father and even towards the Church, and I mean any Church. Amen.

¹⁵ Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verse 15)

Oh God my Father, this is my motto forever, that of being a worker according to Your will, who has no need to be ashamed and who does all according to Your will. I pray oh God my Father, that You help me live up to this motto Amen.

¹⁶Avoid profane chatter, for it will lead people into more and more impiety, ¹⁷ and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, ¹⁸ who have swerved from the truth by claiming that the resurrection has already taken place. They are upsetting the faith of some.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verses 16 to 18)

Oh God my father the tongue can bless and it also can proclaim falsehood or half truths. I pray oh God my Father that You consecrate my tongue so that I will stick to the truth even though this at times may work against me, if I did something in error. However even if this is the case I will be humble and responsible enough to accept my errors Amen.

¹⁹ But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let everyone who calls on the name of the Lord turn away from wickedness."

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verse 19)

Oh God my beloved Father, even though others may judge me because of my actions and even label me as being a bad person, in truth even though I am not free of sin, You know that I love You and even I know that You love me and that I am Yours forever. I pray oh God my Father that You help me overcome all that is negative in me Amen.

²⁰ In a large house there are utensils not only of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for special use, some for ordinary.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verse 20)

Oh God my beloved Father, among all the utensils in Your house I consider myself as being a utensil that is made of clay that is used for ordinary use. My role in life is a common one especially when compared to that of others, especially when compared to that of my colleagues. I pray that You give me a situation by which I can get the others respect, and then I will feel accepted as one of the team. I know that I am to be happy by being Your son, however humanly speaking I also long to be accepted with all my strengths and weaknesses as I am acceped by You. Amen.

²¹ All who cleanse themselves of the things I have mentioned will become special utensils, dedicated and useful to the owner of the house, ready for every good work.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verse 21)

Oh God my beloved Father, may this prayer be my prayer, may I always be an instrument in Your hands, may You do all that You want me to do and do it well Amen. May we join brother Frances in the following prayer:-

The prayer of St. Francis

²² Shun youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verse 22)

Oh  God my beloved Father, if only we stop acting on impulses and letting ourselves be guided to much by our feelings more than by our faith and trust in You. Those who trust in You and let themselves be guided by You never fail. Amen.

²³ Have nothing to do with stupid and senseless controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verse 23)

Oh God my Father as You know one question leads to another, many times the aim is to win the argument more than to defend the Word of God. We end up going around aimlessly in circles while knowing that we are going to get nowhere. I pray that You save me from such moments Amen.

²⁴ And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kindly to everyone, an apt teacher, patient,  ²⁵ correcting opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant that they will repent and come to know the truth,  ²⁶ and that they may escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

(The Second Letter of St. Paul to Timothy Chapter 2 verses 24 to 26)

Oh God my Father, I pray that You make me humble enough to avoid arguments, even though I know that I am right and that what I am saying or doing is according to Your will. I let You be my judge and not other people Amen.

Oh God my beloved Father I would like to end this second chapter of the second letter of St. Paul to Timothy with the following prayer.

Oh God I pray that You undress me from my sinful nature and make me more like You, for I am weak in both body and in spirit. Every day of my life is a struggle to live according to Your ways however I do not always overcome myself. I pray for Your constant support Amen. Thank You Jesus.
